Topic 4

  • What is the topic you are reading about? Minimal Wage
  • What is the source citation? Just copy and paste it from the bottom onto your blog. DO NOT COPY THE URL! "Minimum Wage." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 20 Oct. 2015.
  • Summarize the central idea of the overview in one or two sentences IN YOUR OWN WORDS. This topic includes the people that are protected by minimum wage law and those who don't, especially workers with disability. Organizations are protesting against low wages and many workers are benefited from it.
  • List two to four specific details that support the central idea IN YOUR OWN WORDS. An organization called "Fight for $15" successfully established a law setting fast food workers' minimum wage to $15/hr.
  • People with disability and workers that get tips often don't get minimum wages.
  • Create an opportunity for further research by writing down two questions the text raises about the central idea (explicitly or implicitly). Explicit means stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt, while implicit means implied though not plainly expressed. Why is enforcing minimum wage law properly important to all workers?
  • What are some causes that prevent people from getting minimum wages?
  • Write down one word or phrase whose meaning you do not fully understand. Meager
  • Next, write down what may be preventing you from understanding it (is it an unrecognizable term? an unfamiliar person, place, or allusion?) Unrecognizable term
  • Use a third party resource (dictionary, thesaurus, Google search) to find its definition or meaning. Write it down. Meager: lacking in quantity or quality.
  • Write one question about the overview that you can pose to your peers in a discussion. How is the society benefited if every single worker in the country gets minimum wage?
