  • Summarize the central idea of the overview in one or two sentences IN YOUR OWN WORDS. This topic talks about the origin of discrimination and whether this kind of "legacy" should be ashamed for. Also it demonstrates the consequences of discrimination. 
  • List two to four specific details that support the central idea IN YOUR OWN WORDS. The slave trade started in sixteen century was the largest discrimination actions in human history.
  • Discrimination against African Americans last 150 years of U.S. history.
  • Create an opportunity for further research by writing down two questions the text raises about the central idea (explicitly or implicitly). Explicit means stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt, while implicit means implied though not plainly expressed. How did discrimination begin and how was it extended?
  • How is discrimination creating negative impact on society? 
  • Write down one word or phrase whose meaning you do not fully understand. descendants
  • Next, write down what may be preventing you from understanding it (is it an unrecognizable term? an unfamiliar person, place, or allusion?) unrecognizable term.
  • Use a third party resource (dictionary, thesaurus, Google search) to find its definition or meaning. Write it down. descendants: a person, plant, or animal that is descended from a particular ancestor.
  • Write one question about the overview that you can pose to your peers in a discussion. What is one way that we can prevent discrimination?
